MULE DEER SPOT AND STALK TEXAS STYLE | 15.2 FULL EPISODE
The sun was just beginning to rise over the vast Texas plains as Michael and Kevin prepared for another day of adventure at Raleigh Outfitters. It was the opening week of bow season, and the excitement in the air was palpable. “Welcome to the Backwoods!” Kevin exclaimed, his enthusiasm infectious as he got ready to dive into the action. With a mix of whitetail and mule deer hunting on the agenda, they were eager to fill their tags and their freezers, making the most of every opportunity.
“I still have a bunch of doe tags, so we’re on doe patrol this afternoon,” Kevin said, his focus squarely on putting some meat on the grill. Meanwhile, Michael was zeroed in on arrowing a big velvet mule deer buck, a true trophy. “We’re some hungry boys and we need some red meat,” he added with a wide grin, knowing that every moment spent in the field was a chance for success and a memory in the making. The thrill of the hunt is one of the best hunting techniques to experience.
As they settled into their spots, the anticipation grew with each passing minute. “We’ve seen a lot of deer this week,” Michael noted, recalling the previous days filled with promising encounters. “But I’m still waiting for that big one to walk in.” With their bows ready and their eyes peeled, they were prepared for whatever the day would bring, their senses on high alert.

After a few hours of patient waiting, it was time to make a move. “That one won’t make it out of sight,” Kevin said confidently as he released an arrow at a doe. The shot was clean and true, and she dropped almost immediately. “That’s how you shoot a deer!” he cheered, feeling the familiar thrill of success wash over him. “Rajon back straps on the grill tonight!”
With one tag filled, Kevin felt a surge of motivation, his spirits high. “I hope Michael’s seeing plenty of deer too,” he said, genuinely eager to see his friend succeed as well. They had been hunting hard, and it was time for both of them to enjoy the fruits of their labor and the camaraderie of the hunt.

The afternoon sun began to dip lower in the sky, casting long, golden rays across the breathtaking landscape. “You’ve got to stop and capture the sunset whenever you see it,” Kevin reminded Michael as they took a moment to appreciate the sheer beauty around them. But there was no time to waste; they were on a mission to find that elusive mule deer, and daylight was fading fast.
“We’ve been seeing mule deer go to bed in this one canyon,” Michael explained as they prepared for their next stalk, their strategy carefully planned. “This morning, we’re going to surround it from both sides.” The strategy was set, and they were ready to move in for a closer look, their movements slow and deliberate.

As they crept through the thick, unforgiving brush, the tension mounted with every step. “There he is!” Michael whispered urgently, his heart pounding as he spotted the mule deer they had been tracking. The excitement surged as they tried to get into position for a shot. But just as they were about to make their move, the deer bolted, disappearing into the dense underbrush in a flash. “We ran out of time,” Michael sighed, the frustration of the close call palpable.
“Let’s regroup and try again,” Kevin suggested, his optimism unwavering, refusing to let their spirits wane. They quickly devised a new plan, determined to find another opportunity. “We know he’s in there; we just have to be patient and smarter.”

With renewed determination, they set off once more, navigating through the rugged, challenging terrain. “We spotted this mule deer yesterday afternoon,” Michael recalled as they approached the area where they had last seen him. “He’s already rubbed off his velvet.” The anticipation was electric as they moved stealthily through the canyon, their senses heightened.
Suddenly, they spotted movement again. “There he is!” Kevin exclaimed, adrenaline pumping through his veins as he prepared for another shot. But just as quickly as they had seen him, the deer slipped away into the thick brush once more. “It’s always that last-second twist,” Michael said with a knowing chuckle, well aware that hunting often came with its share of challenges and near misses. This is a clear example of one of the best hunting techniques in action.
