MISSOURI BOWHUNTING BUCKS | BWB 2019 EP 18
In the heart of Missouri, the crisp autumn air signaled the peak of the rut, and for Kevin, that meant one thing: an exhilarating day of bowhunting was about to unfold. Settled into his elevated perch in one of his favorite bow hunting tree stands, he was filled with the promise of adventure, eager to see what the day would bring. “The bucks are on the move,” he whispered with a grin, the thrill of anticipation coursing through him as he scanned the terrain for any sign of movement.
As he prepared for the hunt, Kevin couldn’t help but reflect on the excitement of being in camp with fellow hunters. One of them, Adam, was on the verge of a significant milestone—his first bow buck. “I’ve killed many with a rifle, but this is my first rack bow buck,” Adam shared, his enthusiasm infectious as they discussed their strategies for the day. This was a moment of camaraderie and shared passion, a core part of the hunting experience that goes beyond the harvest itself.

With a new scent product in hand, Kevin was determined to make the most of his time in the field, applying some valuable deer hunting tips he’d learned over the years. “This new six triple punch scent is going to help us out,” he said, applying it carefully to his gear. The scent was designed to attract deer, and he hoped it would bring them closer to his stand. “I can’t wait to see how it works,” he added, feeling optimistic about their chances during this prime fall hunting bow hunting season.

As they settled into their respective spots, Kevin and Adam kept their eyes peeled for movement. “Yesterday morning was great; I saw ten or twelve deer,” Kevin recalled. “But today has been a bit slow.” The inconsistency of deer activity kept them on their toes, a familiar challenge for any seasoned hunter, but they remained hopeful that the right buck would come along.

Just then, Adam spotted a shooter buck chasing a hot doe in the distance. “There he is!” he exclaimed, excitement bubbling over as he watched the action unfold. The adrenaline surged as they both focused on the scene, hoping for a chance to take a shot. “This is what we came for!” Kevin said, his heart racing at the prospect of a successful hunt.

After some time, Adam finally got his opportunity. “I drew back and saw his horns,” he said, recounting the moment with pride. “I had to find the shoulder and take my shot.” The tension in the air was palpable as they waited to see if Adam’s shot had connected. “I’m very proud of that deer,” he said, excitement shining in his eyes as they approached the fallen buck.

“Look at that!” Kevin exclaimed as they reached the deer. It was a stunning eight-point buck, and Adam couldn’t contain his joy. “We’ve had pictures of him for three years,” he said, marveling at the impressive rack. The camaraderie between the two hunters was evident as they celebrated this significant achievement together.
With Adam’s successful hunt behind them, they decided to change locations. “Let’s head to a different farm,” Kevin suggested, eager to keep the momentum going. They packed up their gear and made their way to a new spot where they hoped to find more deer activity. “It’s an all-or-nothing spot,” Kevin noted, excitement building as they approached their new stand.
As they settled in, they reflected on the day’s events. “It’s always a good time hunting with friends,” Kevin said with a smile. Even if they didn’t fill their tags that day, the memories made in the woods were what truly mattered. “We’ll be back next year,” he promised, looking forward to more adventures in the great outdoors.
