CanCooker: Quick, Easy and Delicious

Anybody that knows me already knows about my passion and love for hunting and also for my love of eating what we hunt or just eating in general. Only problem is that I’ve never really been that good of a cook. Well now that problem has been solved ever since I got a CanCooker, making delicious meals from my **deer hunting** adventures easier than ever.

These things are awesome and very easy to use, perfect for any **hunting trip** or even just at home. Basically you just prepare whatever you want to put in it, my favorite lately has been potatoes, squash, carrots, deer backstrap, and deer sausage. All you have to do is cut up all your ingredients and throw it all in the cooker. I usually start with the vegetables at the bottom, followed by the meats like fresh deer backstrap or savory deer sausage, and then add whatever spices you want to use. The key is to add about 12 ounces of whatever liquid you would like to marinate it with—broth, beer, or even just water works great. After that, you just throw it on the stove or a burner if you’re in camp, enjoying the wilderness on a **hunting trip**. Once it starts steaming, you have about 30-45 minutes of cooking time, and then its done. The CanCooker creates a sealed environment that steams the food to perfection, locking in flavors and nutrients.

It’s simple as that and so very tasty. If I can make a good meal using the CanCooker, then anybody can do it. It truly transforms my post-hunt cooking experience. Y’all go check them out at www.CanCooker.com and see what they are all about.

VIDEO: Missouri Boss Buck

The crisp morning air hung heavy with anticipation as Kevin Knighton, co-host of Backwoods Life, settled into his spot with Spikes ’N Spurs Outfitters. The landscape was a winter wonderland, frost glistening on the ground and the trees, creating a picturesque backdrop for what was about to unfold. This hunt was the culmination of days of scouting and preparation, a perfect example of deer hunting techniques in action. Kevin was ready, his senses on high alert.

“He’s moving right there!” Kevin whispered excitedly, his eyes locked on a figure in the distance. “There’s a buck back there behind that tree. He’s going to come into that gap right there. I’m on him whenever…” The adrenaline surged through him as he prepared for the shot, a crucial moment for any hunter. Using his essential hunting gear, including a reliable rifle and scope, was about to pay off.

The moment of truth arrived, and with a steady hand, Kevin took aim. “You think I hit him?” he asked, a mix of hope and anxiety in his voice. “You smoked it!” came the enthusiastic reply from his companion. The thrill of the hunt was palpable as they both realized they had just witnessed something special—a big old tank of a buck, a true Missouri giant.

Kevin had seen this deer before, spotting him during their first afternoon in the area. “I actually think that’s a big old mature eight-point,” he said, recalling the impressive sight. “He’s got big dark antlers compared to the others.” The excitement built as they discussed the deer’s characteristics, knowing they were in for an unforgettable experience that highlighted the rewards of patient hunting.

“Finally, dude! Finally!” Kevin exclaimed, relief washing over him. “That shot didn’t take long, but I’m glad we came back here this morning.” He was nestled behind his ghost blind, which provided excellent concealment. The frost-covered landscape added to the thrill of the moment as he prepared to take in the full experience of the hunt, a testament to the effectiveness of his setup.

“I left my tripod and shooting sticks out here last night, and they’re all covered in frost,” he noted with a chuckle. “That fill pod gives you a good steady rest, and I started to say I probably didn’t need that steady of a rest at 75 yards, but boy, I’m shaking right now! Probably glad I had it.” This is where having the right essential hunting gear makes all the difference, providing stability when the pressure is on.

As Kevin approached the downed buck, he couldn’t help but admire its majestic size. “Look at that! He’s got a kicker coming off right here, makes him a nine-point,” he said with excitement. “That’s cool!” After days of hunting and waiting patiently, the moment had finally arrived, a perfect payoff for his efforts and a showcase of effective deer hunting techniques.

“I’ve been hunting up here with Spikes and Spurs,” Kevin explained, reflecting on his time spent in the field. “I bow hunted last week and saw some shooters every day.” It was a testament to their dedication and hard work that they had finally connected with this impressive buck, a true trophy for any hunter.

After a long struggle, they had heard the deer moving through the creek bed nearby. “We just heard them when they got up and started walking,” Kevin recalled. “A doe walked out first, and he was right behind her. We hollered at him, and he stopped just long enough for me to put the hammer on him.” This successful encounter was a direct result of understanding deer behavior, a core component of advanced deer hunting techniques.

The weight of the successful hunt lifted off Kevin’s shoulders as he stood over his prize. “That’s a big old weight off my shoulders,” he said with a grin. “I don’t know about you guys, but it’s a heck of a relief to me!”

With gratitude in his heart, Kevin appreciated another successful year filled with memories made in the great outdoors. “Another big old buck on the dirt,” he concluded, reflecting on the journey that brought him to this moment and the satisfaction of a well-executed hunt.

Backwoods Life 11.12: Kansas and Kentucky Deer Hunting

The early morning sun cast a golden hue over the Kansas landscape as we prepared for another exhilarating day of hunting. For the Whitaker family, this was more than just a pastime; it was a way of life, a tradition that brought us together in pursuit of the majestic **whitetail deer**. Each year, we journey from our homestead in Kentucky to the sprawling fields of Kansas, where the thrill of the hunt awaits. The anticipation of tracking and harvesting a trophy buck in the vast, open spaces of Kansas is a feeling that truly defines the **deer hunting experience**.

As we drove through the rolling hills, excitement bubbled within us. Kansas is renowned for its big bucks, and we were eager to see what the day would bring. With Ryan armed with his bow and a determination to fill his tag, we set our sights on a prime **deer hunting spot**. The plan was straightforward: find a good location, set up our blind, and deploy our trusty decoy, affectionately named Bucky. We carefully considered wind direction and deer movement patterns, drawing on years of experience to select the perfect ambush point.

Upon arriving at our chosen location, we quickly got to work. The wind was brisk, but we knew that the deer would be moving through the winter wheat fields, drawn by the promise of an easy meal. We carefully brushed in our ground blind among the cottonwoods, ensuring we blended into the environment. With Bucky positioned strategically in the field, mimicking a real buck, we settled in, hearts racing with anticipation. The silence of the morning was broken only by the rustling leaves and the distant calls of birds, adding to the immersive hunting atmosphere.

Almost immediately, we spotted two deer cautiously approaching the decoy. They grazed beside Bucky without a hint of fear, and we couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement. But hunting is never without its challenges. Just as Ryan prepared to draw his bow, a big buck appeared out of nowhere, charging straight toward Bucky. This unexpected turn of events is a common thrill in the unpredictable world of **whitetail deer hunting**.

“Self-filming is tough,” Ryan chuckled as he scrambled to get the camera on the deer while also preparing for the shot. In the chaos, the buck barreled into Bucky, knocking it off its post and leaving us in disbelief. It was a moment that reminded us of the unpredictable nature of hunting—one minute you’re poised for success, and the next, you’re left laughing at the chaos. These are the stories that make each **deer hunting trip** memorable.

As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the field, we remained hopeful. More bucks began to appear in the distance, their silhouettes framed against the fading light. Just when Ryan thought he had missed his chance for the day, another buck emerged, eyeing Bucky with suspicion. The fading light added an extra layer of challenge and excitement to the hunt.

With adrenaline coursing through his veins, Ryan steadied his bow and took aim. The shot felt good; he could see the buck posturing up to the decoy. But out of respect for the land and other hunters nearby, we decided to let the deer lay overnight to avoid disturbing the area. This ethical decision is a cornerstone of responsible hunting practices.

The next morning brought renewed determination. We returned to the scene with cautious optimism. After reviewing the footage from the previous day, we felt confident about Ryan’s shot but knew that patience was key. The early morning chill and the crisp air invigorated our spirits as we resumed the search.

As we retraced our steps through the wheat fields, Kathy’s keen eye caught something in the distance. “Look over there!” she exclaimed. There lay Ryan’s buck, a magnificent creature sprawled in the middle of the field. The sight filled us with immense satisfaction and gratitude.

“Mass City!” Ryan shouted as we approached. The buck was a true trophy—heavy and majestic—an embodiment of all our hard work and dedication. It was a moment that encapsulated why we love hunting: not just for the thrill of the chase but for the memories created along the way. This successful harvest was a testament to Ryan’s skill and patience, making it a truly rewarding **deer hunting experience**.

The adventure didn’t end with Ryan’s success; it was just beginning for Isabella, their daughter. This trip marked her first real deer hunt, and she was bubbling with excitement. With her crossbow in hand, she stepped into the field alongside her parents. This was a significant milestone, a rite of passage into the family’s cherished tradition of **deer hunting**.

“Just remember to breathe and take your time,” Kathy advised as Isabella lined up her shot. The moment she pulled the trigger was electric; the deer dropped right in its tracks. The sheer joy and pride on Isabella’s face were palpable, a moment etched forever in our family’s hunting history.

“Look! I see a white belly!” Isabella squealed as she raced toward her prize. The joy on her face was priceless as she celebrated her first successful hunt. In that moment, it became clear that hunting is about more than just filling tags; it’s about creating memories and building bonds that last a lifetime. This successful **first deer hunt** for Isabella was a highlight of the trip.

The Whitakers exemplify this spirit by sharing their love for the outdoors with their children, ensuring that the next generation appreciates nature just as much as they do. As we packed up our gear and prepared to head back home to Kentucky, we reflected on the incredible experiences shared during this trip. From missed opportunities to triumphant recoveries, every moment served as a reminder of why we love this lifestyle.

Whether you’re a seasoned hunter or just starting out, remember that every adventure in the wild is filled with lessons waiting to be learned. Embrace each moment—the thrill of the chase, the beauty of nature, and the joy of family—and you’ll find that hunting is about so much more than just the hunt itself. It’s about the connection to nature, the challenge, and the unforgettable **deer hunting experience** shared with loved ones.
